The East Feliciana Parish Police Jury has refused to accept a proposed parish master plan because of differences with the authors over the language used in parts of it.
The Advocate reports Jurors Louis Kent and Larry Beauchamp said Monday the committee that produced the plan refused to substitute "permissive" language for "mandatory" language for the parts covering Police Jury areas of jurisdiction.
As an example, Beauchamp said, the plan says the parish will join a regional tourism promotion effort.
But he and Kent wanted to change the verb to say the parish would "consider" joining a regional authority.
Mary Salmon, a member of the group that produced the plan, said other parish agencies supported the plan as it is written and their representatives are comfortable with the language.
