A Vermilion Parish neighborhood will soon be receiving extra flood protection. According to Parish Engineer Gene Sellers, the the police jury has received a $1.4 million grant to prevent future flooding in the South Airport Road Subdivision. Sellers says the money will be used to build up existing levees in the area along Youngs North Coulee. Storm surges from Hurricanes Lili and Rita pushed water from Vermilion Bay and the Vermilion River in to the coulee, causing major flooding in the area. Sellers says work will begin once the police jury accepts work bids.
