The Acadia Parish Police Jury is discussing creating a new fire service district for parts of Crowley outside of city limits. Police Jury Secretary/Treasurer Richard Latiolais says the plan calls for building a new firehouse for the unincorporated parts of Crowley. The Crowley Fire Department currently responds to calls in those areas, but Latiolais says it is becoming too expensive for the department to work outside of city limits. He adds fire stations elsewhere in the parish are too far to service the unincorporated areas of Crowley. Latiolais says the proposed fire station would have a fire truck and would be staffed by volunteers.
The idea is still in the discussion stage, and Latiolais says a public hearing will be held next month to discuss the issue further.
