State Troopers are investigating a police-involved shooting and pursuit that started in Church Point and ended in Carencro.
It all started shortly before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, when a Church Point police officer pulled over a man for a traffic violation. The driver of that car, 22-year-old Jordy Malbrough of Church Point spoke to the officer, but then fled. For unknown reasons officers gave chase and shot at the vehicle striking Malbrough.
"The shooting happened somewhere along the route from where the pursuit began to where the vehicle finally crashed in Carencro," said Trooper Stephen Hammons.
Malbrough got out of his car and ran into a nearby trailer park where he attempted to hide from police.
"The guy was hiding in my shed," said Josh Bodoin.
"I turned around and I looked, that dude was shot in the back of the head, [he] said that the cops had shot him, wanted me to bring him to the hospital and stuff."
Malbrough was apprehended by police, and taken to an area hospital where he was later released and arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Charges in connection with Tuesday's incident are still pending. A passenger in Malbrough's car was questioned at the scene, but later released. As for the status of the Church Point officer who shot Malbrough, repeated phone calls to Church Point Chief of Police Albert Venable were not returned.
