Several Ville Platte High band students and their former teacher are under investigation following an alleged assault by the students on some of their classmates.
Chief Neal Lartigue says his department received a complaint stating that the students took off their belts and whipped bandmates as they walked through a drumline.
Lartigue says the teacher was not involved in the incident. He says the teacher is being investigated because the incident took place in the teacher's classroom.
Evangeline Parish schools superintendent Toni Hamlin says the teacher is no longer employed by the school system. Hamlin could not comment further on the matter because it is a personnel issue.
