Opelousas Police are investigating a Wednesday night shooting at the Town House Motel on W. Landry Street.
Police say the victim, her children, and her mother were staying at the motel after losing the mother's home to a fire back on November 12th.
Investigators say the victim's estranged husband, Jefferey Freeman, went to the motel last night saying he wanted to see his kids. Witnesses say the two began arguing and eventually, Freeman pulled out a shotgun, followed the victim into her room, and allegedly shot her. Police say Freeman dropped the weapon and left the scene in his truck.
The victim was taken to the hospital after being shot in the arm and abdomen, she is listed in stable condition in the ICU.
Investigators have learned that the couple has been separated for approximately three months, which is why she and her children were living at her mothers home, until the house fire.
Officers arrested Freeman after he turned himself in early this morning. Freeman has been booked into the Opelousas jail for attempted 2nd degree murder, he will go before a magistrate on tomorrow.
Investigators also say this isn't Freeman's first time being arrested. According to their records, Freeman was booked on October 10, 2013 for assault, after an altercation with his estranged wife.
