KENNER, La. (AP) - Kenner police have arrested a 35-year-old woman accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the scrap yard where she was employed.
Sgt. Brian McGregor tells The Times-Picayune the case against Melissa Tate is still under investigation, and detectives suspect she may have stolen closer to $500,000.
McGregor says Tate, of Marrero, worked for All Scrap Metals for about seven years.
He says the business owner contacted police after he discovered that Tate had overpaid a customer.
Tate was arrested Monday and booked with theft valued at more than $1,500 and conspiracy to commit theft. She is free on a $50,000 bond.
It was unclear whether she has an attorney.
