Police Discover Troubling Surveillance Video at LHS

An investigation into a Lafayette High School teacher is still ongoing, after a female student claimed a female teacher fondled her and several other students at school.

And while Lafayette Police were searching surveillance video of the room where the alleged incidents happened, they discovered another troubling incident.

Police say while scouring through surveillance video, investigators discovered that students were using the room where the camera was placed to change clothes. Police said the room is also used as a studio.

"So that caused our investigators great concern so they brought that issue to the school board for them to look into the matter," said Lafayette Police Public Information Officer Cpl. Paul Mouton.

Mouton said they do not believe the video of students changing was intentional, but said it's an issue that needs to be fixed immediately.

"From what the investigators are telling me, there was no criminal intent as far as the video and what it was capturing," explained Mouton.

And Mouton said the school system told police that only high level administrators have access to surveillance video. But there are still many unanswered questions, like exactly who watches it and how often the videos are checked.

School administrators declined to comment on the issue, only saying it is under investigation.
