A number of North American police superintendents and commanders are in New Orleans to discuss public safety and departmental operations. The State and Provincial Police Division of the International Association of Chiefs of Police is holding its midyear conference in the Crescent City. Officials from 49 states, Puerto Rico, and Canada will discuss the Sandy Hook incident and the latest in school safety measures, as well as terrorism, disaster response, and officer health and wellness. The organization will also honor the its Trooper of the Year during a Friday banquet.
Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson is the general chair of the State and Provincial Police Division.
