Opelousas police have released the name of the man whose body was found this morning in a car behind a local business.
Chief Perry Gallow says 35-year-old Daniel Hardy's body was still behind the wheel of an SUV when it was discovered.
Police were called to the 1100 block of South Union Street around 8:15 A. M. after workers at the business saw the vehicle, which police say crashed into a boat, a tree line, and a fence on the property.
Police believe Hardy crashed the vehicle late Saturday night or early Sunday morning after failing to come to a stop at the corner of Main and Leonard Streets, driving into the business's driveway and striking the fence, trees, and boat
Police say Hardy borrowed the vehicle Friday from another person, who reported Hardy missing after he did not return with the vehicle. Police say because the location where Hardy and the SUV were found could not be seen from the street, which is why the crash was only discovered today.
