Police: Bank Robbery Suspect tied to Tuesday Carjacking

Lafayette police say the person who robbed a bank at gunpoint this afternoon is believed to be driving a car hijacked from a store parking lot last night.

The suspect robbed the Whitney Bank in the 3600 block of Johnston Street around noon. The suspect pulled a gun and demanded money before fleeing the area. No one inside the bank was injured.

The carjacking took place last night in the Albertson's parking lot at the corner of Ambassador Caffery and Congress. The suspect demanded the victim's keys at gunpoint. The suspect got away in a white Mazda Tribute with Louisiana license plate number PIL 340.

Surveillance video at the bank captured an image of the suspect. If you know who he is or see the white Mazda Tribute, call Lafayette police at 291-8600 or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
