KENNER, La. (AP) - A 17-year-old Kenner boy is in custody after accidentally shooting a 16-year-old while playing with a pistol.
The victim remained hospitalized Monday.
Lt. Wayne McInnis told The Times-Picayune the shooting happened Friday. While the older boy pulled cartridges out of the gun, McInnis says it slipped from his grip. Though he caught it, the gun discharged.
McInnis says the 17-year-old and two other teenagers moved the victim to a stairwell so no one would know where the shooting happened. .An adult later called police.
The older boy threw the weapon into the Mississippi River. He is
being held on $50,570 bond on charges of negligent injuring,
illegal use of a weapon and obstruction of justice. The other
16-year-olds were booked with obstruction of justice and being
truant from school.
