Police arrest convicted felon for allegedly shooting man in face with AK-47

Rayne Police Department says it arrested a convicted felon Wednesday night who allegedly shot another man in the face with an AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle.

Upon arriving to the scene, officers located a 45-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the face and identified Quintin Von Keith Senegal, 30, as the alleged shooter. Police said Senegal discharged the assault rifle into a vehicle that included three passengers as well as the wounded victim. Police say the victim remains hospitalized as of Thursday evening and is still recovering.

Police said that Senegal, as a convicted felon, violated both state and federal law by merely possessing the semi-automatic assault rifle that, they say, was used in the shooting.

Officers said they responded at 6:52 p.m. to multiple reports of gunfire in the 500 block of North Arenas and arrested Senegal shortly after the incident and was charged with four counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder and one count of Possession of firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.

"This incident occurred in a quiet residential neighborhood where numerous children were playing outside. The dangerous disregard for the public's safety in this situation by the suspect and others is infuriating. The investigation has yet to determine the true motivation for the incident. However, evidence suggest it is a continuation from an incident Sunday on Quarter Pole Road in which multiple shots were fired. My officers are diligently working to gather additional evidence and possibly charge other individuals in this incident," Chief Stelly explained.

The chief said that more arrests are expected as the investigation of this incident is "in its infancy."
