Officials in Plaquemines Parish say the parish emergency preparedness office has been awarded certification in the National Weather Service's "StormReady" program. The certification was announced Thursday.
Kevin Davis, director of the governor's homeland security office, said in a news release that StormReady certification recognizes improvements the parish has made by first responders and citizens in preparing for storms.
The parish says working to gain certification through the weather service program involves training emergency responders in skills needed to survive severe weather and prevent loss of life.
