Plaquemines Parish gets new airboat

BELLE CHASSE, La. (AP) - Plaquemines Parish has bought an airboat with a federal grant received by the state homeland security office.
The 18-foot-long airboat seats eight passengers. It has removable seats to carry generators in case of an emergency.
Officials say the boat will be used for search and rescue during hurricanes and high water events, levee assessments, possible sand bagging operations, and monitoring coastal restoration projects.
