The LSU Eunice softball team continued its dominance on Thursday, sweeping NAIA opponent LSU Alexandria by scores of 5-2 and 5-4 this afternoon in Eunice.
The Lady Bengals improved to 46-4 on the season with the wins, increasing their winning streak to 19 straight games.
"I really thought we pitched well, and we had some bad breaks with line drives at people and balls that didn't fall. But we kept battling and when they took leads we answered back," head coach Andy Lee said.
In the opening game, the hosts used a three-run sixth inning to grab the win, as Brooke Thomas, Pam Wainwright and Ashley Subervielle each finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Wainwright and Kelsey Hollier (1-3, BB) each notched a double, as Thomas collected an RBI and Randi Vosburg (0-2) drove in three RBIs in the win. Codi Covington added an RBI base hit as well.
Vosburg's RBI groundout gave the Lady Bengals the lead for good in that sixth inning before RBI singles by Thomas and Covington back-to-back pushed the lead to three.
LSU Eunice scored back in the second inning when Brooke Clark (1-2, BB) opened the inning with a single before scoring on Vosburg's RBI groundout.
The Lady Bengals added their second run in the fourth when Vosburg's squeeze bunt tied the game after LSU Alexandria had taken the lead in the top of the fourth.
Julienne Broussard earned her 22nd win of the season after tossing a complete game, allowing three hits and both runs while walking two and striking out 11 batters.
The second game saw the Lady Bengals battle back to take the lead in the fourth inning before eventually retaking the lead in the fifth inning and holding on to it.
LSU Eunice plated a run in the bottom of the first on Hollier's RBI single before LSU Alexandria took the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning.
The Lady Bengals responded, tying the game on Wainwright's RBI double before she scored one batter later on Chelsea Evan's two-run homer over the wall in right-center field gave the hosts the lead.
LSU Alexandria tied the game again in the top of the fifth with two runs, but Carey Alexis' sacrifice fly to plate Covington in the bottom of the frame proved to be the game winner.
Thomas and Subervielle again finished with two hits, as Evans also tallied two hits. Wainwright and Hollier's RBI base hits were their lone hits, as Taylor Simon added the only other hit for the Lady Bengals.
Elizabeth Delafield earned the win in relief, tossing the final 2 2/3 innings and allowing no hits and adding three strikeouts.
Starter Brooklyn Gulliot went the opening 4 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and four runs (three earned) along with four walks and a strikeout.
The Lady Bengals are back in action on Monday afternoon when they travel to take on Baton Rouge Community College in a doubleheader set for a 5 p.m. start. They continue their short road trip on Tuesday afternoon when they take on Pearl River Community College.
Both doubleheaders are available on Bengal All-Access, while Monday's doubleheader can be heard on KVPI.
