Pineville woman faces cruelty charge

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - A Pineville woman has been arrested after her daughter was admitted into a Shreveport hospital for treatment of burns to the body.

Rapides Parish sheriff's deputies tell The Town Talk Tracey Vanantwerpen was charged with second degree cruelty to a juvenile after her 2-year-old daughter was admitted into Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital's Emergency Room for scalding to the lower body Jan. 28.

Staff at the emergency room reported the incident to the Rapides Parish sheriff's office.

Doctors at the burn center described the child's injuries as first and second-degree burns.

A Rapides Parish grand jury indicted Vanantwerpen.

She surrendered to authorities on May 31.

It could not be determined whether Vanantwerpen has an attorney.
