PINEVILLE, La. (AP) - Six weeks after voters decided to allow alcohol sales in Pineville restaurants, drinks could be available with dinner as soon as this week in some establishments.
The Town Talk reports permits can be issued as soon as Friday, and at least nine Pineville businesses have started the process by purchasing what is called a "notice of intent" from the Rapides Parish Tax and Use Department.
Voters in Pineville overwhelmingly passed a measure on Oct. 19 to allow restaurants to serve alcohol.
The issue was taken to voters after decades of going unchallenged largely at the behest of multiple developers. Supporters believe it will spur economic development - specifically that national brand restaurants will locate in Pineville, opening up other opportunities.
