OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - How many rings does a pig's nose need?
At least three, and they have to be big, according to a St. Landry Parish ordinance dating from the 1800s.
St. Landry Parish is working to clean up local laws and eliminate outdated ordinances that help swell the total to more than 900 pages.
The parish council is scheduled to vote Wednesday on whether to hire a company to sift through the parish code before the St. Landry Parish Ordinance Review Committee goes to work.
Dale Barstow says his company, the Municipal Code Corporation, has done that for more than 3,000 towns, cities, counties and parishes. Its one-month, $2,200 review lists ordinances and suggests possible changes.
A year-long, $13,000 to $14,000 review provides possible replacements and revisions.
