Philip deMahy Sr., recently sentenced to two years for possessing child pornography, is being housed at the Iberia Parish Jail. On May 2, deMahy, a New Iberia advertising executive, was sentenced to two years in prison without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence. In January, he pleaded guilty to 10 counts of possession of pornography involving juveniles.
It's unclear whether deMahy, who is considered a Department of Corrections prisoner, will remain in the Iberia Parish Jail or be sent to a state prison. Dept. of Corrections Public Information Officer says deMahy is listed as DOC prisoner, but she does not know if he'll be transferred to a state prison. It's possible he'll remain in Iberia Parish. KATC is trying to find where he'll spend the next two years. It's not uncommon for DOC prisoners, depending on the crime they've committed, to serve their time in a parish jail. The state pays local and parish jails to house DOC prisoners.
