NEWELLTON, La. (AP) - Two petitions are being circulated to close a popular roadside bar in Tensas Parish that has been the site of three homicides since 2010.
However, the bar's owner, Robert Welch, said he has no plans to close and he has spent money beefing up security at the Highway 4 Bar. The bar is about 10 miles west of Newellton and near the Franklin Parish border.
The most recent murder happened earlier this month.
Newellton's mayor, Alex Davis, tells The News-Star even though he had not seen the petition, he agrees something needs to be done.
Davis said the authority to revoke the bar's license resides with the Tensas Parish Police Jury and juror Cathy Darden said the bar's permit expires in November.
