GRAND ISLE, La. (AP) - After delaying action last week, the Town Council of Grand Isle has voted to issue a permit for the popular Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo.
The annual fishing tournament is now set for July 26-28.
The rodeo brings about 15,000 people to the barrier island that is home to about 1,000 people.
Councilman Scooter Resweber said the council had delayed the permit over a variety of issues, including traffic and public drunkenness that accompany the rodeo. There also were complaints that organizers favor out-of-town businesses.
The council voted to issue the permit Tuesday. Resweber told The Courier that the decision came after Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts, a Tarpon Rodeo board member, came and listened to residents' concerns.
