Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle

Sheriff Louis Ackal states that on February 7, 2011 at approximately 4:16 p.m. Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the 900 block of Bank Street in reference to a 13 year old male being struck by a passing vehicle. According to deputies the 13 year old stepped off of a sidewalk into the roadway and was struck by a pickup truck as it was driving on Bank Street. Deputies advise the male suffered a severe head injury and had to be transported to a Lafayette hospital by Acadian Ambulance's Air Med. Deputies also advised the 13 year old was non-responsive at the time he was being transported to a hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was not cited and deputies did not suspect the driver was impaired at the time of the incident. Also, as of 09:04 a.m. February 8, 2011 the 13 year old was being treated in ICU and in critical condition.
