Early Saturday night Louisiana State Police responded to fatality in Tangipahoa Parish. When troopers arrived at the scene, they found 20 year old Lavarius Grisby, of Ponchatoula deceased by way of a vehicle crash.
Preliminary reports show around 8 p.m. a 1999 GMC pick-up truck was traveling southbound in the left lane on I-55 near La. 22. Grisby was wearing dark colored clothing and walking with several pedestrians westbound on I-55. While walking westbound Grisby, for unknown reasons, walked into the southbound left lane and was struck by the front of the GMC.
Grisby received fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. The driver of the GMC was restrained during the crash. The driver submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was found in his system.
A blood sample was obtained from Grisby and will be submitted to the LSP Crime Lab for a toxicological analysis.
Those results are pending as this crash remains under investigation.
