Pedestrian Killed in Lafourche Parish

Not long after 10 p.m. Saturday, a pedestrian was struck and killed after he walked into the path of a vehicle on LA 1 near Hospital Drive in Lafourche Parish.

Louisiana State Police discovered David Bergeron (W/M age 29) of Raceland, LA, along with two friends, were standing off the west side of LA 1 waiting to cross. For unknown reasons, Bergeron attempted to cross LA 1 and walked directly into the path of a 1997 Ford F-150 traveling south on LA 1. The F-150 was being driven by Billy Duet (W/M age 51) of Raceland, LA.

Bergeron was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office. Duet, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol use or impairment is unknown, but routine toxicology tests are pending for Bergeron. Duet submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement.

This crash remains under investigation.
