Pedestrian in Critical Condition after Being Struck By a Car

A Breaux Bridge man has been arrested for hitting a pedestrian in Lafayette. 37 year old Corey H. Duplechin was arrested and charged with OWI First Offense and Vehicular Negligent Injury.

At approximately 2:30 am Sunday, Lafayette Police responded to the 900 block of West University Avenue. Officers say the driver of a 2004 Buick had struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The car had been traveling West on W. University Avenue when the crash happened. It is still unknown why the pedestrian was in the roadway.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital and is in critical condition. The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department's Traffic Section.
