One person is dead in Lake Charles after a fatal crash. Saturday night around 9:30pm, police say a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Ronnie Desormeaux, 62 years old, was traveling westbound on McNeese Street. Police say as Desormeaux entered the middle turn lane to make a left turn onto South Park, he collided with a white female who was walking east in the turn lane. Desormeaux told he did not see the pedestrian until the last second. Two Police Officers were headed east on McNeese Street and also saw the female in the middle of the turn lane. Both officers say that they too did not see her until they were right beside her. The officers say they just passed her and was turning around to go get her out of the roadway when the vehicle collided with her. The pedestrian, Deborah Bergeron, 53 years ole, was pronounced dead at the scene. Desormeaux was taken to Memorial Hospital where he voluntarily submitted to a blood alcohol test. The coroner's office transported the victim, where toxicology testing will be performed. There was no indication that alcohol was present on the driver of the vehicle. At this time the vehicle was not found to be in violation and no citations were issued. Both Bergeron and Desormeaux are from Lake Charles.
