Pay raises will stay in West Feliciana budget

ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - The West Feliciana Parish Council will keep money in the 2014-15 budget to fund 4 percent pay raises for some parish employees.

The Advocate reports the raises will cost the parish $70,000 per year and the money will come from areas such as the sewer funds.

The council's vote effectively upheld a veto by Parish President Kevin Couhig of a previous amendment that would have stripped the pay raises.

But the council overrode Couhig's veto of an amendment on funding the economic development board, effectively compelling the board to develop its own budget.
