Patterson has been honored by the National League of Cities for taking part in anti-obesity initiatives. Mayor Rodney Grogan received eight medals on behalf of the city for actions taken to improve access to healthy affordable food and increasing opportunities for physical activity. Grogan says his struggles with weight have pushed him to fight against childhood obesity. "The City of Patterson will continue to do what it can do to fight childhood obesity," Grogan said. "I have been fighting obesity all my life and I have endured the physical, emotional, social, economic impacts related to the disease."
