On the three year anniversary of her son, Ryan Blake Dunn's death, Kimberly Bourgeois gathered with friends and family to honor and celebrate Ryan's life and the lives of other children who have died too young. The ground breaking ceremony is the first step in seeing Pathways come to fruition.
Pathways of Hope is a walking park being built in honor of Ryan Blake and all the children we have lost. It will be a place to meet another mother who may have just begun this journey of heartache and comfort each other in what we know to be a life long process of grief. The pain never goes away, it never recedes, we just learn to walk with it each day and sometimes the only time we feel like we've come home is when we look into the eyes of another mother, father or parent who has experienced this loss.
Only July 16th, 2013, ground breaking took place. Pastor Phillip Corbett of Corrigan Texas and author of "Running With Your Second Wind" was in attendance and led the dedication. Kimberly and Ryan's story is featured within Chapter 15 of the book Running with Your Second Wind"
Phoebe Cormier, of Mamou, who experienced the loss of child, when her son, Coby Cormier was taken 20 years ago, is seen being comforted by Kimberly, Rebecca LaFleur and Pastor Corbett, as she experiences the grief and release of pain within this healing place.
The next event planned will be the Ribbon Cutting and release of paper lanterns into the sky. However before this date can be set the pond fountains, bridge, and pavilion will be built and the walkway poured. Mothers and fathers who have buried a child and other supporters are welcome to contact Kimberly Bourgeois through www.pathwaysofhope.com, and she will notify them when the date is scheduled. Once the fall arrives planting will begin, plaques to be placed at Pathways of Hope (beside a tree, rose, bench, plant). Plaques of remembrance can be purchased through Bourque Signs in Eunice, La.
Kim's hope is to involve as many parents as possible, because she knows healing comes through shared experiences, and this is one she would not wish on anyone. Find out more at www.pathwaysofhope.com or follow us on Facebook - Pathway of Hope.
