One person is dead after a car being towed on Interstate 10 broke free and crashed into another vehicle.
State police say the crash took place just past the Breaux Bridge exit at mile marker 112. The car being towed crossed the median after it broke free from the car pulling it and smashed into an oncoming vehicle.
The deceased was riding in the back seat of the car that was struck. State police say the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
Charges are pending against the driver of the vehicle towing the runaway car.
State police say the right lane is blocked while the investigate the accident. However, the highway remains open.
