CAMERON, La. (AP) - A large portion of Sabine National Wildlife Refuge will be closed during feral hog management operations.
Federal officials tell the American Press the operation will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
The closure, from La. Highway 27 west to Sabine Lake, includes all boat access. Law enforcement officers, along with refuge staff, will be at remote waterway entry sites to inform the public to remain outside the area.
All recreation areas along Highway 27 accessible by vehicle will remain open, as well as boat access to the east toward Calcasieu Lake.
Officials say marsh habitat, throughout Sabine National Wildlife Refuge, has been compromised because of extensive rooting by feral hogs.
