MADISONVILLE, La. (AP) - The front campground of Fairview-Riverside State Park near Madisonville will be closed during May as crews cut down weather- and insect-damaged pine trees.
The Office of State Parks says the trees pose a danger to the public. Officials said Tuesday that new oak trees, pines and cypresses will be planted in their place.
Campers can still enjoy the park because the back campground will stay open.
The Fairview-Riverside State Park lies one mile east of Madisonville on state Highway 22 in St. Tammany Parish. The Tchefuncte River runs through it.
