Parents React to Caillier's Child Porn Arrest

Parents opinions are split and a Superintendent is left wondering after a teacher was arrested on child pornography charges.

Larry Caillier Jr. a former biology teacher at Opelousas High was arrested Friday on three counts of child pornography.

The first is production of child pornography meaning sexually exploiting a child to produce child porn.

The second is causing a child to engage in criminal sexual activity.

The third is possession of child pornography.

With little information available, it's leaving people on their own to fill in the blanks.
Monday afternoon parents wait for their kids to get out of school.

Some of them can't help but think about last the event that landed one of the school's popular teachers in jail.

Some of say they are hoping for the best.

One parent says, "it may not be as much as they saying it is. They really need to look into it and give it time for investigation and everything.  It may not be what it appears to be."

For some parents, these charges are becoming all too common.

"I'm very upset," says Melinda Bernard.  "You can't even feel safe sending your kids to school anymore having to worry about pornography and teachers."

Friday morning, news of Caillier's child porn arrest was new information to St. Landry Parish Superintendent Michael Nassif.

Monday afternoon, he's still being left in the dark.

"No one has called us from the law enforcement side as to what has taken place with Mr. Larry Caillier Jr," says Nassif.

He says, as far as he knows, all allegations of child porn took place at the Caillier residence and on his own time.

"Until we get some concrete evidence we really dont know if there were students involved or other faculty members or other staff involved."

More will be known about the case and Caillier's future after his federal court hearing Wednsday.
