NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A long-brewing battle over the volume of music blasting out of French Quarter bars is going before New Orleans City Council members.
A council committee on Tuesday was set to review a proposed ordinance governing the placement of loudspeakers in Quarter businesses. It's the latest attempt to deal with what longtime Quarter residents say is a growing noise problem - wall-rattling amplified music rolling out of bars on Bourbon Street and other parts of the historic district.
There are signs that the fight won't end Tuesday. A residents' group says the latest version of the proposed ordinance appears to be weaker than earlier drafts.
