Panel backs land sale to hospital

ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - A West Feliciana Parish Police Jury committee has voted to recommend that the jury sell the West Feliciana Parish Hospital a 14-acre tract of land at its fair market value for a proposed new hospital.

The Advocate reports the move came after the panel heard additional details Tuesday on the proposal.

The land is now used as a ballpark and playground.

Hospital board members pushed the jury for a decision at its March 19 meeting, but jurors voted 4-3 to send the item to a special committee.

Hospital Board Chairman Leonard Sullivan said the hospital's architects say the new hospital would cost about $15 million to build, but the hospital might have to borrow money to equip and furnish the facility.
