Over Six Ounces of Powder Cocaine and Crack Cocaine Seized

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon and Chief Tony Hardy, on Monday August 16th the Vermilion / Municipal Narcotics Task force along with the Abbeville Police Department seized over 6 ounces of powder cocaine and crack cocaine.

Agent with the Task Force received information that one Oris Brigss Jr DOB 12/9/1987 of 608 S. Bailey St. Abbeville, was selling cocaine on the two hundred block of Myrtle St in Abbeville. Upon agents traveling to the residence they encountered Briggs sitting under a porch. After identifying themselves and advising Briggs of why they were there Briggs fled on foot from the scene. A short foot pursuit ensued and Briggs was subsequently apprehended. Briggs was found to be in possession of several rocks of crack cocaine and upon searching the area several ounces of cocaine was found hidden in a bar-b-que pit where Briggs was sitting. Briggs was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Bond was set at $75,000.00. Briggs is no stranger to the Task Force. In June of this year he was charged in another incident with Possession with intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.


Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy, commends the Narcotics Task Force for a job well done.
