CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - Several weeks after he was voted out of office, St. Bernard Parish President Craig Taffaro is resigning to start a new job working for the state of Louisiana.

Taffaro will resign Thursday morning as he prepares to become the state's new director of hazard mitigation and recovery.

Taffaro lost his bid for a second term as parish president when Dave Peralta defeated him in a Nov. 19 runoff.

David Dysart, the parish's homeland security director, will take over Taffaro's responsibilities until Peralta is sworn into office on Jan. 10.
