MONROE, La. (AP) - The Ouachita Parish School Board voted unanimously to approve finance committee recommendations reinstating teacher supply allocations and discontinuing the summer school program for middle schools.

Board members also voted unanimously Thursday to name the West Monroe High School football field after a long-time coach.

Assistant Superintendent Don Coker said discontinuing the traditional summer school program would save the district $35,000 and eliminate duplication of services between the summer school and the LEAP remediation.

The board voted to name the West Monroe High School football field after Don Shows who has coached at the school since 1989 and led the school to 8 Class 5-A state championships.
