The Ouachita Parish Police Jury's 911 Administrative Office has upgraded to a new emergency dispatch system.
Craig Lott, coordinator for the 911 office, tells The News-Star the main difference between the new system and the old system is the ability to notify all responding agencies of an incident instantaneously.
Previously, Lott said an incident call would first be transferred to the appropriate police agency. The police would question the caller, dispatch officers and then notify the other agencies. The new system allows for a more streamlined response time.
Future components to the system will allow information to be sent out to laptops in responders' vehicles.
