New Orleans' sheriff is preparing to answer reporters' questions about grim video released during a federal court hearing.
The video appears to have been recorded at the jail run by Sheriff Marlin Gusman. It includes scenes of one inmate injecting himself with a syringe and other prisoners using a variety of what look to be drugs. Some inmates are seen drinking beer and one is seen removing bullets form a large handgun.
The video was shown Tuesday during a hearing on a proposed agreement between Gusman and the U.S. Justice Department on a plan to reform the jail. New Orleans city officials oppose the agreement and have suggested that the federal court appoint someone to run the jail. Gusman is expected to address reporters Wednesday afternoon.
