NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An Orleans Parish sheriff's deputy has been fired and arrested over allegations that he raped and kidnapped an inmate.
Thirty-eight-year-old Dejuan R. Thomas was arrested after an inmate reported the alleged incident and the sheriff's office opened an investigation, sheriff's spokesman Marc Ehrhardt said.
The Times Picayune reports that Thomas was booked Friday on a charge of aggravated rape, second-degree kidnapping and sexual malfeasance in office. He is being held in protective custody on $105,000 bond.
Ehrhardt would not give details of how the crime occurred or where. He also wouldn't say when it was reported or whether the inmate who reported it was the person Thomas allegedly raped.
Thomas had been employed as an Orleans Parish deputy since September 2009.
