While Christmas is a time for the little ones in our lives, one out of every nine babies born is premature. That means they were born earlier than 37 weeks, sometimes weighing as little as a pound.
Micro preemie clothing (clothing for babies under 5 pounds) is often hard to find and expensive. The organization's goal is to provide clothing for premature babies in the NICU in order to relieve a little of the financial stress felt by parents in this situation and provide more comfort to the babies.
The organization relies on volunteers like Ruby Marks to make the clothes.
"At the time it hurts your heart, but when you do something it makes you feel better to know that you're helping these babies to get better," Marks said.
Marks began crocheting hats for the organization last year after she fell ill and couldn't work anymore.
"When you think your situation is bad, there is always someone else's that's worse," Marks said.
Regular donations are made to Acadiana area and other Louisiana hospitals.
