Opelousas traffic stop leads to crack cocaine arrest

Opelousas Police say an early morning traffic stop led to an arrest for crack cocaine in downtown Opelousas.

OPD officers conducted a traffic stop on W. Grolee Street at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police say the driver, Nicholas Evans, 23, of Opelousas, was told why he was stopped and asked to exit the vehicle.

According to police, Evans dropped a small plastic bag containing $300 in crack cocaine. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Opelousas Jail.

Police say Evans was booked on a charge of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II drug, along with traffic charges.
