Opelousas Police Investigate Shooting

Opelousas Police are investigating an early morning shooting that happened near the entrance drive-way area of the Evangeline Downs Race Track and Casino. Injured in the shooting is 35 year old Earl McCarthy of Opelousas who sustained a single gunshot wound to his shoulder area. Opelousas Police say they received information that the alleged shooter possibly left the scene driving a black or dark colored Nissan Altima. Opelousas Police asks if anyone has any additional information in reference to this incident, please contact the Opelousas Police Department at 337-948-2500. The victim is in stable condition at this time in a local hospital recovering from surgery.
