Opelousas Marshal's Office arrests violent offender wanted for six years

A Lafayette man on the run for more than six years was caught today by the Opelousas Marshal's Office.

Deputy Marshal Michael Potter said Brad Martin has been wanted by the state Department of Corrections since 2008 for skipping out on parole.

Martin, 39, was on parole for a vehicular homicide charge, though Potter said Martin has more than 17 arrests on his record and is considered a violent offender.

Deputies watched the house where Martin was staying for a few days before arresting him today.

When deputies searched the home, Potter said they found a substantial amount of marijuana, weapons and 11 pit bulls.

Martin was arrested for parole violation, and the marshal's office is preparing an arrest warrant for distribution of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, and possession of paraphernalia.

The case is still under investigation, Potter said. More charges are possible.
