A family is mourning the loss of a father, son and brother after he was shot only feet from his mother's Opelousas home. Police say the victim, 27-year-old Dion Lamb, was shot around three o'clock Tuesday morning in the 500 block of Kim Dr. He was rushed to a hospital where he died.
Lamb had been shot once on a sidewalk. His mother was home, but says its not uncommon for shots to be fired in the neighborhood, and didn't think there was anything wrong.
"I didn't know until they knocked on my door," said his mother Beulah Lamb. "I didn't know what was going on. I mean it was late it was bad, I mean, I didn't know what was going on. It was like I had blacked out, it was just terrible."
Family and friends of Dion gathered at his mother's home, still trying to piece together what happened.
"They didn't have to do him like this," said his sister Shalonda Thomas. "He was a loving brother, father, son, he was the world to me and all the hurt of him going. But I know that God is with him."
His mother says he was quiet and kept to himself.
"He was a very good child. His heart went out to everybody," said Beulah.
Opelousas Police have no leads at this time. The family says they are desperate for answers.
"They shot him and just left him there and, you know, that was wrong," said Beulah."I'm just asking whoever, I don't care what they know, just let the police know, come to me and let us know if they know anything."
