Louisiana State Police Troop I are investigating a single vehicle crash on US 167 south of Ville Platte that claimed the life of an Opelousas man.
According to investigating troopers, on March 24, 2010, shortly after 5:30 p.m., a 2004 Nissan pick up was traveling southbound on US 167 south of Ville Platte. For unknown reasons the driver of the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and entered a ditch. The vehicle overturned and ejected both occupants of the vehicle. Thirty-one year old Brandon Richard of Opelousas, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Evangeline Parish coroner. The other occupant, twenty-five year old Tradey Henry of Ville Platte was transported by Air Med to a local area hospital with moderate injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers are still working to identify the driver.
Louisiana state law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear seat belts. You have a greater chance of surviving a crash if you are properly restrained. This is the 14th fatal crash and the 15th Troop I has investigated this year.
