An Opelousas man was killed in a crash that happened in St. Landry Parish this morning.
Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on the I-49 Frontage Road near Kennerson Road. The crash took the life of 32-year-old Corey L. Doucet of Opelousas, according to LSP spokesperon Master Trooper Brooks David.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Doucet was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon northbound on the Frontage Road. Doucet failed to negotiate a left hand curve, and his GMC traveled straight off the roadway, stated David. After leaving the roadway the GMC allegely struck a ditch causing the vehicle to overturn.
Doucet was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries as a result. Driver impairment is unknown at this time. A toxicology sample was taken from Doucet and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, according to Master Trooper David.
