An Opelousas man was indicted Thursday on a charge of vehicular homicide stemming from a two-year-old automobile crash.
The St. Landry Parish Grand Jury issued a true bill in the case of Joseph Clanzea Austin, 57, 929 E. South Street, Opelousas, for the vehicular homicide of Donald Ray Berry, on or about September 2, 2011.
According to the 27th Jusicial District Court District Attorney's Office, the delay in getting the case to the grand jury was due to extensive forensic testing that had to be accomplished before the investigation was complete.
If convicted of vehicular homicide Austin faces imprisonment with or without hard labor for not less than five years but not more than 30 years.
